    COURSE OF STUDY
    Students will study works of prose, poetry, drama, and fiction in relation to their historical and cultural contexts. Texts were selected for what they reflect and reveal about the evolving American experience and character.

    1st semester

    • August - language of the discipline and literary devices
    • September - The Crucible by Arthur Miller [RL #7]
    • October - The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald [RL #1, 2, 5]
    • November - COMPONENT 4
    • December - A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift [RL #4, 6]*

    * I acknowledge that this is British Lit and not American, but satire is a very important concept to study and this text is the mother of all satirical texts.
